Company / History
In 1905, André Citroën founded a gear factory. He was the son of Levie Citroën, a diamond merchant of Dutch origin who moved to Paris in 1873.
In 1919, Citroën introduced Europe’s first mass-produced car: the Type A.
By the end of the First World War, the Citroën factory was well equipped for mass production, and the Type C was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1921. Designed by Edmond Moyet, it was initially offered only as a two-seat Torpedo body style, but came standard with electric starting and lighting. In 1924, several Type C variants were released, including the Type C VL.
The Voiture de Livraison (VL) was an early light delivery van version of the Citroën C3. Payload capacity was only 125 kg, which was very limited. As a result, only 1,083 examples were built, of which only a few survive today.
The car had two separate leatherette seats. The driver’s seat was fixed, while the passenger seat could be removed. The roof was made in one piece, with a wooden frame covered in leatherette.
