Following Ford’s acquisition of the Lincoln Motor Company in 1922, Henry Ford installed his only son, Edsel, at the helm of the fledgling luxury brand. With access to Ford’s vast engineering resources and guided by Edsel’s refined aesthetic sensibilities, Lincoln quickly evolved into everything Ford was not: powerful, technologically advanced, and decidedly exclusive. In contrast to Henry Ford’s utilitarian, one-model philosophy, Lincoln offered a far more tailored buying experience, with an array of coachbuilders producing elegant and varied body styles. Much to the dismay of Lincoln founder Henry Leland, who was forced out just months after his company was acquired, Ford's stewardship revitalized the brand, culminating in 1926 as its most successful sales year to date.

The Model L offered here is particularly compelling, featuring highly desirable aluminum seven-passenger Touring coachwork by Brunn that today presents a charming, well-earned patina. According to accompanying build records from The Henry Ford archives, the car retains its numbers-matching engine and crankcase and was completed on 19 October 1925, originally finished in Brewster Green—a hue closely echoed by its present appearance.

Acquired by the consignor’s family in 1957 and brought to their home on Martha’s Vineyard, the Lincoln embarked on an extraordinary chapter of nearly seven decades under continuous family stewardship. Apart from brief sojourns to the mainland, this Model L has spent the majority of its life on the island, where it became a familiar and admired sight along Martha’s Vineyard’s picturesque roads. Restored to its current presentation in 2012, the car has since been featured in the Vineyard Gazette, Harvard Magazine, and the Martha’s Vineyard Times, with the latter’s writer capturing its appeal as “the most beautiful car I have ever seen…truly a work of art.” Accompanied by a 1925 Lincoln instruction booklet, it is further enhanced by an array of desirable appointments, including dual side-mounted spare tires, running board-mounted spotlight, Greyhound radiator mascot, and a rear luggage rack with trunk.

Recognized as Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America, Model L Lincolns are prized for their robust performance and dependable touring capabilities, making them ideal participants in CARavans and long-distance events.
