A Dutch Rally before the first Dutch Rally.

Cars of the French make Rally are extremely rare. To meet such a car in the pre 1940 Dutch landscape was as likely as finding a Lincoln stretched Limo in the Afghanistan mountains now. The French make started building sporty voiturettes with aircooled V-twins, which later gave place to four cylinder engines like S.C.A.P. and Chapuis-Dornier. This Rally is one of the later and was owned by mr. Wehling, the father of one of our readers(thank you Hans!). Mr. Wehling wanted to race the car at the famous circuit Zandvoort which was opened in 1939. Anyway WWII destroyed many things amongst which the racing career of mr. Wehling. Read about the feel of Zandvoort(by RG Hodgson). The first Dutch Tulip Rally only started after WW II. (photo courtesy Hans Wehling)
