A French Model T.

Cars like the little 5 HP Citroën 'Trèfle' (Cloverleaf) did for France what Tin Lizzy (UPDATE: it's not Thin, but Tin, thank you Phil Menhusen) did for the US. They did put France on wheels. It was the know-how of building small cars that made Citroën decide to develop a very small super comfortable car that should be able to transport 4 farmers at a speed of 40 mph with a basket full of eggs without breaking these. It was a very intelligent way to open up the vast rural market of France. The result of this project became one of the French icons in transport. A line up of the 'Deux Chevaux' prewar prototypes you'll find at Julian Marsh's ultimate Citroën website. Click the photo to enter the Swiss Citroën 5 HP Register. (photo collection Arthur Fryling)
