This 1939 Alta is the 2 litre 2 seater sports/racing model of which 6 were built and 5 survive today. Delivered to H.B.Townsend on 26 June 1939 it had little use until after the war and he sold it to P.Mew in 1958. The current owner purchased the car a week after arriving in England from Australia on a working holiday in June 1960. During the next three years it was used daily as his only means of transport and raced at Silverstone and various speed hillclimbs. He toured England in the car and on several occasions even slept in it when accommodation was scarce. In 1963 the car was shipped to Australia and its engineer owner rebuilt it during the next nine years before registering it for road use. The car has since been used regularly on the road and in club rallies, races, sprints and hillclimbs for the past 30 years and is now offered for sale. See Alta sales page and engine compartment.
