A prewar scrapper and maybe 200 pounds of plastic.

It certainly doesn’t look very pre 1940 but underneath this devilish sportscar hides a Austin Seven chassis and engine. In the aftermath of WW II all those longing for driving something special had to create it themselves. There were no new cars available and money was scarce too. Old pre-war chassis were taken from the scrapyard and started a new life sporting a GRP body, like this “Microplas Stiletto”. A whole industry evolved around this now almost forgotten episode in car history. Factories like Lotus and Marcos both had their roots in this time. See 1950sSpecials.com. Luckily there is now some recognition for this gloomy period and people start appreciating these special products. (text Bas de Voogd; photo from his collection)
