A special Amilcar at Montlhéry. (UPDATE II : Amilcar Pegase G36)

In september 1937 Eduard Klimberg, an Estonian who lived in Paris, took part in an AGACI-race on Montlhéry with his Amilcar. According to Estonian newspapers he finished second after L. Gerard (Delage). The man on the double-image is August Zimmermann, son of the chairman of Estonian Automobile Club Jaan Zimmermann. He was planning to become a professional racing driver in Paris. On the second photo (made in Montlhery) the car is painted in blue (interior), black (frame, fenders) and white (body), in colours of Estonian national flag. The registration number seems to be 4645 RK4. The car supposedly had a 2450 ccm engine. Perhaps someone of  prewarcar.com readers recognizes the car and can tell something about the history and later destiny of this Amilcar? Has it survived? Is it still running?

A couple of words about Eduard Klimberg. He was an amateur racer in Estonia. In 14.07.1929 he participated in German GP on Nürburgring with his 36HP Renault, but did not finish the race. Soon after that he moved to Paris, where he owned garages and traded cars and car parts. He was a member of the technical committee of the Monte Carlo Rally. In 1941 he sold his businesses in Paris (and perhaps the Amilcar too). In 1947 he moved to Argentina, where I have lost his tracks so far.

Editor:  no engine with a displacement large as 2,4 liter was made under the name of Amilcar. So this must be a racing special. However we look forward to an expert response.

Update by Bart Oosterling:
I can find no reference to mr. Klimberg nor the Race in which he supposedly
drove in sept. 1937 at Monthléry in:
Sheldon's Grand Prix and voiturete racing,
Hawke's Small car racing and record breaking, nor in
Boddy's Monthléry -the story of the Paris Autodrome, nor in
Blight's The French sports car revolution.

The identical of a sister Amilcar (in road trim: licence plate 4643-RK4) is pictured in Blight's The French sports car revolution, page 405, picture below. Picture of again mme. Roux driving in the 1937 Paris - St. Raphaël Feminin Race.

The Amilcar Pegase in 1937, a Pegase was entered into the prestigious LeMans endurance race. Mme. Roux, the wife of a wealthy Parisian surgeon, began racing a Pegase in 1936. She entered races including the Marne G P and the French Grand Prix . Later an Amilcar Grand Prix car powered by a 2.5 liter Delahaye engine. It was entered in the 1938 Le Mans race.

1937 was the year that Hotchkiss merged with Amilcar. Two years later with the start of World War II, the factory was closed.

Power was supplied by an eight cylinder engine, designed by Delahaye one of only eight ever built.
Seems one car entered at leMans Historic 2010. There is pics on motor legend.com

In 1994 Poulin le Fur auctions sold off the Serge Pozzoli historic racing collection.
One of the cars was an Amilcar which was called Amilcar Pegase G36.
It had the wings or mudguards of this car, and a sloping front from which the narrow shield shaped grill stood up vertically.
It also showed the straps holding both wings across the top of the radiator.
