Between the load of press releases we receive, we sometimes find materials not fully clear to us. The spectacular photos here were sent to us by a Mr. Hugo Vazquez. From the Spanish e-mail we get that the "Automóvil Club Argentino" is organising the fifth "Gran Premio YPF Argentino Histórico" (Historical GP of Argentine - or the Carrera form Argentine). The total race distance is 4300 kilometres ( abit under 3000 miles...), so if you like driving like hell and have a few bowls of dust as side order, this must be it. The race/rally/ will be held from 7 to 15 de September. Can you recognise the US made Coupes in the foreground? [email protected]
UPDATE II By Fernado Godoy:"TC races ( Turismo de Carretera = Open road races ) is the 3º Argentina national sport, after footbal and Rugby. Started early 20’ and still alive, both in a vintage category (the one reflected in your pictures) and in more modern cars. There is a humongous list of web sites, check the official 'Turismo de Carretera'. Fangio and Froilan Gonzalez, both F1 champions did their first experiences in Fords and and Chevys in dirt tracks . Even more, in the 40´ there was a race between Buenos Aire and Caracas (Venezuela) , more than 8.000 km in a few laps , with the copilot pumping alternatively fuel, oil and water from internal auxiliary tanks in the trunk to the main ones. In the first and second picture you can see a Ford and a Chevy, but in the link there is also an oddity : a beautifull DKW – Autounion, a 2 stroke german car who, sometimos , gave a galant fight to the much powered North American Fords , Chevys and Dodges."
UPDATE by Mark Dawber:"I presume those are '39-'40 Chevys."
