Back to the future.

Two weeks from now the oldest touring rallye of the world will start from Audi town Ingolstadt (a Horch was the winning car in 1906). The rallye which was organised only in 1905, 1906 and 1907 will celebrate the second centennial re-enactment; see Herkomer Konkurrenz 2006 and also the map of this year's route.
A little while back - in Essen - we found this original photo postcard showing the passage in Leipzig on June 5th 1907. According to Braunbeck's Sport Lexikon this car No. 53 in 1907 is Curt von Dambrowski from Dresden in his Benz. Note the co-driver looks like using his mobile phone. The man on the left is taking note of the cars passing by. (photo collection editor)
