David Greenlees sends this photo of a 1906/07 Peerless:"After studying other photos of early Peerless's I believe it is either
a 1906 model 14 30 HP 107" WB or a 1907 model 16 30 HP 109" WB. In
1908 it appears that they eliminated the sub frame which was an early
feature on many cars that held the engine and transmission. The car
in the photo I imagine was made into a speedcar by these dashing
gentleman probably in the building just behind them as the door is
labeled Office Garage. By the looks of it someone put quite a bit of
time into converting it. One modification which is unique is the the
front spring horns were cut off at the front of the radiator and it
was converted to 3/4 elliptic springs. These Barney Oldfields also
constructed a very nice tapered cowl and sides that are attached to the
tilted seat. It has road equipment minus fenders so I doubt it was
a racing car unless they removed it when they got to the track. A
couple of other things I noticed was that they cut off the back of
the muffler and it is missing a front hubcap."
(click photo for more detail; the only thing your editor can add is the remarkable resemblance of the cranking man with silent movie comedian Buster Keaton (.com). A great name to surf on, we instantly found his recently Buster's restored mansion (Period-Homes.com) with a famous car parked in front. Still Mr. Keaton was not the typical automobilist, but he loved to race with cars (NorcalMovies.com)
