Tjitte de Jong writes that he is preparing his Austin Seven Military (which was subject of 'What is it? # 89' ) for the largest vintage car event of the year in Holland: "de Friese Elfstedentocht". Tjitte's photo reminded instantly of the famous 'vintage' UK tv-series :Dad's Army (www.Phill.co.uk) under command of Captain Mainwaring...
...back to Friesland. The Elfstedentocht is 200 km journey paralel to the race by ice skaters in severe winters along 11 old Frisian towns. Some 300 vintage motorcycles and cars will paticipate. Even your editor will try to reach the Starting banner. Although the Amilcar is not yet in rally tune it is a handfull of nuts and bolts closer to starting than Tjitte's Mulliner's Military 7... We truly hope to meet many of you in sunny Sloten next Friday & Saturday.
