Recently Fons Alkemade -who is an expert on French Automobile history- went to Paris and rented a velib (bicycle) to visit Puteaux, on the outskirts of the city, close to La Défense. His story goes as follows: “The city of Puteaux, in cooperation with the city of Suresnes it seems, has taken the initiative in the 1990s to place small plates containing historical information on the industries which have been active along the quai De Dion-Bouton before about 1930. More than 30 years ago the quai De Dion-Bouton used to be called the quai National and one of the main automotive factories which could be found along the Seine was... De Dion-Bouton of course. Unfortunately, all the factories along the quai have been destroyed and replaced by awful apartment buildings. Some of the other companies at the quai National were Bardon, Dinin (electric cars), Unic, Vinot-Deguingand, Lombard and Gladiator.
