Debugging the Mercer. UPDATE: another Mercer Mercer...! plus a Grant Grant)

Al & Sharon Mercer(!) from Missouri, USA sent us a recent snow shot: "My wife and I are restoring a 1922 Mercer Runabout. I built a wooden framework to allow me to drive and 'debug' the chassis (edit.: very wise of the two of you!). Hopefully the car will be completed this spring. This picture is one that was taken in November 2006 after a 4 inch snowfall. The goggles and the helmet add to the effect. Driving the chassis is great fun. This 1922 Mercer Runabout has a 298 CID L head 4 cylinder engine with roller cam, four-speed transmission and a factory installed exhaust cut out. 32 x 4 1/2 inch tires handle the snow well. "

Do you have any spectacular weather photos with your old car? Or do you have a family name equal to your car. You are welcome to send in your photos or story to [email protected]
UPDATE by Mark Dawber (NZ): "We have a Mercer owned by a Mercer here in NZ. I have spoken to Kevin Mercer a number of times on the phone over the last couple of years as I have been trying to organise an article for Beaded Wheels magazine about his car. It is one of the very rare six cylinder models from 1923-4. I met him for the first time last weekend at a classic car race meeting here in Christchurch. His car has an interesting background. It was built up with some of the remains of a car which was raced in the New Zealand Motor Cup races on Muriwai Beach when it was almost new. Kevin imported an incomplete car from Australia about ten years ago and after many troubles - including breaking a conrod - it is now going well. Another (name/name) car is the Grant car restored by Barry Grant in the North Island of NZ."
