A Hispano Suiza can be very fast. Sometimes dangerously fast. That’s what Monsieur Ringard, the second owner of this car, found out when he crashed his Alphonse XIII into a a Renault 40 HP. This was in 1915... But he had the repairs done, kept the Hispano and during World War II hid it at a friend’s Chateau. After the war the Hispano was dismantled and the body thrown away as it was in very poor condition. The rolling chassis was sold and a restoration was started, but never finished. Christoph Grohe of Fine Classic Cars in Switzerland acquired the chassis and has now completed the restoration. Last week he filled the petrol tank for the first time and had a marvellous drive. The engine of his 1913 Alphonse XIII is very powerful and the car proved dangerously fast. In his own words: “I was very... OOPS!” Enjoy the 1913 now it is finally back to 1913 condition.
