Don't drive and distil.....

Holidays are over(well for us anyway). So back to the salt mines of prewar cars and charriots like this one we found in Sarlat le Caneda in the heart of the French Dordogne. It looks like a three pot dragster from the Fred Flintstone era. In fact it's a driving distillery. It was built in 1930 and was used to travel from farm to farm and make happy and very strong 'Eau de Vie' from prunes, nuts or pears. The fermented fruits were put in the three kettles and were heated with steam. The distillate landed in the big tank at the rear. Probably this beast was taken out of service when it started to leak a little and the workers never came home again in time... (photo by editor)
