Rare, even by Bugatti standards, is the Type 57 with the stately Galibier sedan body. Named after the famous 'Col Galibier' on the French side of the Alps, the model was introduced in 1934 and built along three consecutive series until 1940. The main feature of this 1934 Type 57 Galibier is its pillarless body with the small rear door that lacks a separate door handle. These so-called ‘suicide’ doors unlocked with the front doors, a style that has only recently been reintroduced with the Mazda RX-8 and the recent MINI Clubman. Question is: was the Galibier the first to feature the 'invisible' rear door? We don't think so, but we like to hear this from you. This Galibier will be auctioned by RM, together with other notable automobiles from the Michigan-based Bud Mick Collection. The Classic Car Auction of Michigan will be held April 26th to 27th.
