Het filmen van een Bugatti in actie

Na de foto van de Rolls-Royce Phantom camera auto die wij vorige week in ons online magazine publiceerden, willen wij u nu graag deze beelden laten zien. De eerste is van een Bugatti (Type 43?) met camera-apparatuur gemonteerd op de voorkant van de auto. De bestuurder, zowel acteur als cameraman, maakt zijn eigen opnamen.

Deze foto's werden ons toegestuurd door een lezer van de site en zijn afkomstig uit een Almanak Citroen uit 1934. De begeleidende tekst vertelt ons hoe, vanaf de begindagen van de film, de auto een hoofdrolspeler werd, een personage dat niet gemist kon worden. Maar pas 20 jaar later werden de waardevolle diensten die hij als aanvulling op de camera kon leveren, duidelijk. "Bijvoorbeeld de race in Montlhéry in een bekende film. Om de indruk te wekken van de snelheid, het inhalen en het gevaar, werden camera's op de treeplanken op de grond gemonteerd om de wagens in de bochten te filmen. Een andere werd dicht bij de bestuurder geplaatst om te laten zien wat hij op de weg voor hem zag en om hem achter het stuur te kunnen filmen".

Op de tweede foto zien we een andere Bugatti (herkent iemand het type?) die door een camera-auto wordt gesleept voor enkele actiefoto's. Terugkomend op de hoofdfoto waarop nummerplaat 1178-RE5 duidelijk te zien is, kan iemand ons meer vertellen over de auto? Misschien zelfs in welke film hij werd gebruikt en of hij er nog is. We horen het graag van u. Reageer hieronder als u ons kunt helpen dit maandagmysterie op te lossen.

Judging by the tow hook from the picture and from what I gather in the attachments, it is a T35 Grand Prix with registration number 4922 NV1 (France). The same registration was given first to a T51A by Automobiles Ettore Bugatti on the 15th of July 1931. But if you look at the narrow shaped radiator and the bonnet that doesn't have a blower release hole, the car in the film is not a T51.
I think the pictures are not related, apart from the fact that they are two Bugattis that appear in films.
All of my remarks are conjectural and based on the small information I could find online, so anyone that can affirm or refute my comments is welcomed.

The Parisian plate 1178-RE5 was given to Bugatti #43308 in November 1930

In december 1931 film director Paul Fejos (Pál Fejös) recorded (one of many remakes of) the French film "Fantômas" for a firm called Braunberger Richebé. Several racing Bugattis featured in this film, racing scenes were shot at the Linas Montlhéry circuit.

It could well be that the racing Bugatti photo is from the time this fim was recorded.

The first picture has been published before on bugattipage.com https://www.bugattipage.com/newspics2/studio1932.jpg where this information is given: "The actor in the Bugatti is Fernand Gravey (actually Fernand Maurice Noel Martens born in Belgium in Ixelles in 1904 or 1905) in the Paramount studios near Paris (Saint Maurice, near Joinville le Pont) in 1932. The film title is Passionnément by René Guissard. Fernand Gravey worked for Paramount at that time." The car is obviously a T43 with French registration plate.

The car in the second picture is a GP, possibly early T35?
