Forward Thinking (see UPDATE)

The 1933/1934 Chicago World's Fair inspired a new generation of forward thinkers. It was an era known as the 'streamlining of America' where anything with wheels or wings was aerodynamically designed to keep up with a world that was spinning faster. One of the more notable innovations that came on the market was the revolutionary Chrysler Airflow which also made its debut at the World's Fair (check out this video on YouTube - and take your time!). Although a big hit with fair goers, the Airflow was perceived as too futuristic for its time and was only offered in the Chrysler lineup until 1938. Few survivors exist today, but RM Auctions is now offering not one, but two of these remarkable Airflows at the ‘Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook’ event August 1 in Rochester, Michigan. They are a 1934 Eight CU coupe and a 1935 eight C-1 Sedan, nowadays really desirable models, we should think. (photos courtesy RM Auctions)

Update by Dick Trenk: "The older I get the more I am amazed at having seen things which now are rather historical. My Dad was a Hudson dealer in Chicago and we went to the Worlds Fair many different days. I clearly recall the Chrysler performing the runs shown in the video. There were other death defying car stunts using other cars and it was a great show for a very young car enthusiast."
