Gran Premio Argentino de Baquets

Ah... the open road. Wind in your hair, no mudguards, loud exhaust and good friends in front and behind. Fabian Gallucci has sent us some pictures of cars enjoying the roads of Argentina. The poster announces the 2015 Gran Premio Argentino de Baquets route from Buenos Aires to Patagonia from 12 to 21 September and the rules can be found HERE. (Online translation). We like their attention to detail: "...Body paint: They are not allowed pearly or metallic paints. The vehicle must imitate aspect of general features, and look reminiscent of what used in this historical category at the time."

The cars built by this wonderful band of enthusiasts vary from basic Model A Fords to beautiful masterpieces of engineering. If you get stuck, your mates are quick with the tow rope and everybody can get back to enjoying the road trip following a route through fabulous scenery.

I would support Milko.
Usually cars in these far off places have been canibalised for eternity, in order to keep another one driving, somehow.
All the parts must be there somewhere, .. just spread about !
(It's bad enough where I live, trying to find parts, without spending LOADS of money importing from England.)
Remember, this is about keeping our hobby / passion alive, and besides which, .. "it all adds to the provenance"
A big "Carry on" from me !

Dear R.Mawer
It is clear that his comment, is based on a complete misunderstanding of how issues are handled in old cars Argentina !!! NOBODY would ruin an original car just for fun !!!! in fact, a lot of cars in those pictures you can see, have a sporting history, having been modified to run on its golden eras. It is true that most of anyway, are made today, but do not get to them disarming original cars, but on the contrary, those badly damaged units, their bodies were mutilated in his time, with lack of originality very difficult to supply or return to their home state, spoiling NO ORIGINAL CARS !!! I myself am putting together a car for that event, a Ford T, with front-wheel drive, based on historical background of a copy made in the USA in 1928, but to that end, I'm just using loose, spare parts other restorations, an engine a preparation carried out in the 40s, it is impossible to original, sporting a homemade wheels also made at that time, here in La Pampa, and well, things could go mensionando long !!! it is preferable to pull those pieces ??? or let them cast aside for not being "original" ?? perhaps, as "home" it is not worthy your old ??? in my view, it is preferable to keep them alive .....

Well-if all these "racing cars" were built from old unwanted spare parts found lying about, then-I suppose-it would be ok. But when you study these pictures, it seems pretty clear that many complete & original old cars-some of them obviously rather nice ones- have been broken up to create these "Mr. Toad" vehicles ( Toadmobiles ) Should cars that have survived for around 80 years end up like this ? Is this the best way to have "fun with old cars" ?
