A Steyr is not only suited for snow. It is also well equiped for mountaineering. In 1934 it was the first car to cross the famous Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Yet 5 years earlier a small expedition with two Steyr cars made a long East Africa tour from Mombass, Nairobi, Khartum to Egypt... Can you imagine, it is 1929 and in full winter two highly packed pick-ups leave Vienna. Between the four expedition members not only Prinz Ferdinand Liechtenstein, but much more important the camera man Rudi Mayer who made an amazing film report of the journey. The film may be silent, it's all so very vivid and fresh that it is, as if looking at a Paris-Dakar of 75 years back. When somebody would propose today to do the same thing in cars like that, we would send for a docter. But do not forget, for these brave men it was the modern time. Just buy to brand new, strong Steyrs and go for it! Amazing movie. Ordering the 110 minutes(!) VHS is possible through Rudi Mayer's grandson, Kurt Mayer or Steyr enthusiast Thomas Billicsich.
