Holsman memories.

A few months ago we asked for a Holsman driver's report. And at last we have one! Sent to us by Howard Musolf, national president of the Horseless Carriage Club of America (2001): 'In the early 50's my father and a friend found an original 1907 Holesman in a barn. After a little coaxing, it was brought back to life. The most vivid memory was the rope drive. On the cross shaft differential mounted ahead of the rear wheels there were 1/2 round pulleys. On the rear wheels were corresponding larger 1/2 round pulleys, rather than the 'v' type of today. Between these pulleys were a rope-like belt approximately 2 inches in diameter. This belting was wrapped on the outside with leather for grip. As this was a 2 cylinder air cooled motor, power was not the problem. The difficulty was the belt drive. It would go like the devil on the flat but come to a slight rise, I can still remember the smell of the slipping smoking leather belts.
