'Hot Rod of the Month'

You may be able to construct a Saturdaynight Special based on our Chassis and Engines department, but this will not bring you the fine example above. Not in 68 years... As this is a true Hot Rod from the early days: a 1937 Ford Rajo Dry Lakes Roadster. Don't even think of a V8 Ford in this case, in that era builder Art Gerrick moneywise could only dream of ultimate hi-tech like that. No this project started as a derelict Model T body which was narrowed with 10 inches (including the gastank !, saves gas... ;-)) Without going too much into detail (better read Hot Rod Magazine, May 1951 for that..., that's where the above titel is from), the Dry Lake racer is a splendid cake with simple ingredients. It was cooked with '24 Oldsmobile chassis rails, Franklin front axle/steering box, '26 Chevy spindles, Model A hubs.
Engine is basically a '24 Model T with Model A crankshaft, Pierce Arrow ignition system and Studebaker radiator core. As said, we leave out all the great tricks & details which make a superstar of this unspoilt pre-war Hot Rod. See it. Feel it. Touch it. Buy it at the Bonhams & Butterfields 1 May auction at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum. (estimate US$ 65-85,000 / photo courtesy Bonhams / click for 1951 illustration from Hot Rod Magazine)
