How much patina do you need?

This Sunday Bonhams will have their annual Sale of Collectors’ Motorcars & Automobilia at the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. Of course we had a look at the catalogue to see if there’s something to our taste. How about this 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS 'Super Sport' Two Seater that was the property of South-African Alfa-enthusiast Hugh Gearing? According to Bonhams’ catalogue Hugh had the opinion that his Alfa took part in the Mille Miglia’s from 1929, 1930 and 1931. When Hugh bought his 6C 1750 just after WW II, he continued the Alfa’s bloodline by entering it in many races and continued to do so for more than fifty years. This means the Alfa with its body by Touring now does show its racing heritage, but that’s just the kind of patina we like. If that also appeals to you, do have a look at Lot 289!
