Karl's very last photograph? (see UPDATES)

Vlad Capotescu, who lives in Timisoara, Romania, has an enormous collection of never before published photographs. From his collection comes this picture of Karl Benz, taken in front of the factory gates in Stuttgart (click image for enlargement). The picture is dated 1929, so it must have been taken just before Karl Benz passed away. His hand rests on the radiator of a brand new Mercedes. We are not sure about the model though. Do you know? Could this be the very-very last photo of Karl Benz and a car? [email protected] (RB)

Updates came in from Kent Olsson and Michael Rose. Both agree that Karl Benz is not leaning against a late twenties Mercedes, but that the car is an early twenties Benz. The headlamps are of a type used much in the period 1921-24, made by Bosch. Thereafter other types of lamps were used. Also the radiator is typical early 1920s Benz, including the round radiator badge.
