Lady on bike or trike ?

A charming lady navigating her Comiot cautiously through a gaggle of geese. The 1899 poster obviously was made to communicate that Comiot products are easy to handle (even by technically ignorant woman in rural surroundings...). When you do not know a lot about Comiot you will easily think they produced motorcycles, but in fact they never did. They were specialist in the then popular tricycles. Not surprisingly as monsieur Comiot participated in the 1897 Paris Dieppe Trail on a De Dion Bouton tricycle ....(McLellansAutomotive.com). A large specimen of the famous poster by Théophile Alexandre Steinlen will be auctioned with Sotheby's Amsterdam Tuesday, June 7 (picture courtesy Sotheby's; clic for full view).
