Monte Carlo Rally, the unconventional way

We were thrilled to hear that - in between tons of Porsches - the Historic Monte-Carlo Rally, organized last week by the Automobile Club de Monaco, was won by a 1971 Alpine A110. A similar car won the rally when it was brand new in 1971. And what a grand coincidence that the new Alpine was also unveiled in Monaco this weekend.

Now, the Monte of days before the war saw some strange entries. From a bus to a six-wheeled and partly tracked Ford on skis – anything goes. But how about post war? Well, there was string of works entered Tatras and a cleverly equipped Bentley while the other end of the size spectrum saw works-DAFs and a lone Renault 4 (which came in last in 1962), but we think this Meadows Frisky may clearly have been one of the braver entries. Not to mention the diminutive Fiat Gamine seen above and entered by the Monegasque team of René-François Dulbecco and Yves Le Graverend in 1969. Very brave. What would be your dream drive on this rally classic?
