New Orleans, one year later

Just a nice and cosy picture of The Good Old Days: one of the fourteen ferries that crossed the mighty Mississippi River at New Orleans in the 1920's (Click pic for enlargement). At this point the river was half a mile wide and the crossing was made in five minutes. On August 28, one year ago today, the mighty hurricane Katrina (wikipedia.org) devastated the coastal area of Mississippi and Alabama, flooding the city of New Orleans. A great effort is being made to restore New Orleans to its former glory and we certainly hope that those “good old days” will return one day. (postcard Horwitz Collection) (RB)
