Rare Premier

Michael West from New York sends us this picture of his latest restoration project, a rare 1907 Premier made by the Premier Motor Manufacturing Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company was in business from 1902 until 1926. They claimed that the oak leaf on its radiator badge represented the first use of an emblem as an automobile trademark. Michael’s roadster is one of only two 1907 models that are known to exist, the other being in the Czech Republic (bimbo.fjfi.cvut.cz). He bought this car in New Jersey a few years ago in poor condition, and is now slowly bringing the car back to life. The engine was freed up by disconnecting the rods and pumping grease into the cylinders via a grease gun and a grease fitting plumbed into a spark plug hole, until the pistons were pressed out. The car is a strong runner and Michael is now finishing up the body. When he bought the Premier, Michael was told that it had been owned by famous collector Barney Pollard (expatriate-online.com) and the car hung from the rafters of a Chicago building over a hundred other cars.
