Run turkey, run!

by Roger Bowers:
For many, like this happy group just arrived at the old family farm in their 1939 LaSalle 5 passenger 4 door Touring Sedan, Thanksgiving is a time filled with comfort and joy. Not so for the poor Turkey, a noble creature which most people don't realize nearly overcame the mighty Eagle as the national bird of the United States. Throughout my lifetime, people have claimed that Turkeys are stupid. Not so! That's why this lot is not hanging about, basking in the warmth of happy, familial greetings. They know that if they do, it won't be long before they'll be baking in the warmth of grandma's oven. Of course, we know that in the end, at least one of them will end up there. It's a very tasty culinary tradition which, no matter how one feels about such a grand bird, is hard to pass up. For those of you who are in need of recipes worthy of this fine feathered fowl, here's a link which should help: click for turkey recipe or check this alternative (EatTurkey.com). Starting turkey cooks better begin with turkey basics. For those who still need metal on their dish, just click the photo for the full picture. (advert from William F. Walling Collection)
