Update: Bas de Voogd let us know that 'SIAM' of course must be the colors of the royal family from SIAM (Thailand), where first owner/pilot Prince Bira was born.
Earlier: Stewart Wilkie reports about last weekend's See Red event at the Donnington circuit, UK. Sunday's highlight was the 70th anniversary ERA race: "Here a photo of Ludovic Lindsay who drove the ERA R5B to a magnificant win by a split second in front of Martin Morris in R11B in the 70th Anniversary race for ERA 's at
Donnington on Sunday. There were 14 (!!!) of the original seventeen cars racing.
It was the most fiercely fought race of the whole weekend and had the
spectators and other competitors gasping in awe at the speed, noise and
nostalga the race - and I mean Race - produced. In total 156 prewar sports and racing cars competed during the weekend." Winner Ludovic Lindsay received the special Roadmap Trophy (clic). At the left just behind him 'What is it?' sponsor Stewart Wilkie. More racing pics in
this gallery . More Era history at John Hodgkinson's pages and the Brooklands Society . Who among you can explain the 'SIAM' sign on the tail of Ludovic's ERA? One thing is sure, it can not be the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) who just proclaimed that cars older then 10 years should be demolished to enhance road safety in India....
