Speed skating tour on rubber.

Shown is a nice Lagonda special participating in last Saturday's Dutch 'Elfstedentocht' for pre 1940 motorcycles and cars. It is a kind of 'remake' of the traditional Elfstedentocht, a heroic speed skating race over 200 kilometers (120 miles) passing eleven Frisian towns and villages, that only can take place during really harsh winters(only 15 times the race was done since 1909). Anyway in the rubber version of the event event over 300 participants did the tour causing traffic jams in the historic town of Franeker(famous for the 18th century clockwork model of the solar system by Eise Eisinga). The field gave a quite precise image of what kind of cars were to be seen in Holland in those days. Tens of Model A Fords, many other 'normal' American and European cars and only a few exotics like an Aero twinstroke sportscar and a giant Isotta Fraschini roadster. (photo editor)
