St.Joseph, Michigan to Detroit

Dave Hinz wrote us: "This photo was taken in 1912 at St. Joseph Michigan which was the beginning of a 180 mile trip to Detroit so that the passengers could attend an Elks club convention. The driver is not part of the convention goers, he is actually a livery driver because the two gentlemen accompanying him rented this car for the trip. Back then very few people knew how to drive cars so the rental companies supplied drivers. Can you imagine Hertz and Avis supplying drivers for every car they rent! The trip took 18 hours each way, so it is good that the convention was in the summer because this jitney has less heat than the 59 VW I had in college. Any help you can provide identifying this car would be appreciated, the fellow in the back seat is my grandfather." (photo from family album of Dave Hinz) Edit.: the car resembles an early Peerless, but as we can't see the radiator you can't be sure. Maybe somebody knowledgeable out there can recognise the car from this enlarged detail ?
