The Centenary of the Tourist Trophy

During the early years of the previous century all racing was banned in mainland Britain. It was therefore the Isle of Man that witnessed the birth of the world famous Tourist Trophy races in 1905. Held until 1908 they were initially based on a strict formula: an average of 25mpg and a chassis that the public could buy. But the rules were constantly changed and in 1908 the rule for fuel consumption was abandoned. Amazingly after 100 years some of these Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motor cars still exist. To celebrate the Centenary of the 1908 TT Race, an exhibition of these rare machines, artefacts, trophies and memorabilia will be held at the headquarters of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain between 24th September and 5th October.
