The Irish Gordon Bennett .

The 2nd July 1903 the travelling Gordon Bennet Cup race was held in Ireland. This picture was taken as Jenatzy, Car No.4 (a Mercedes), prepared to start. Don Foley of the Race Centenary Festival wrote us that the car, a 60hp machine, probably was borrowed from the american millionaire Charles Dinsmore and converted to racing specifications following the fire at the Mercedes factory which destroyed the original 90hp cars which had been entered. At the Irish Gordon Bennett Cup Centenary Festival website you will find great original photos, the original map of the closed road track, a lively report of the 1903 race by Leif Snellman and all you nedd to participate.
