The toy in the X-mas quiz.

Remember Quiz # 136? We asked the visitors to launch their theory on the toy in the basket on top of the hood of Santa's 1904 Gardner Serpollet. Evan Ide thought it maybe could be a clockwork Duryea. Winner Jos Theuns (Morris Minor NL) sent the winning - not necessarily correct - theory:

"Looking at the context of the whole picture, this Santa has only one address left on his long list of visits. The address he is going to must be a sweet little girl living on the better side of town. Most of her wishes will be fulfilled this year including a new family for her large doll-house.
So why do I think she lives on the better side of town? Well, although I do not know what make of car it is, in order to reach the house the streets must be paved or at least reasonably solid. The poor usually lived in the lower parts of the villages and towns where the ground was so much more soggy and less suitable for a heavyweight car.
The better neighbourhood is further demonstrated by the stone building behind the car; the poor lived in wooden houses, the rich had stone houses. Also this house is detached or semi-detached as can be seen from the trees at least at the right side.
