The Wilmot Galo- Galor- Calo- or Calormeter ?

An intriguing cooling water thermometer was entered this week. made by Wilmot Manufacturing Ltd. from Birmingham. Not attached to a known make of car. As usual the searchengines helped us out by bringing one single link on Wilmot Calormeter...the Australian Morris Register (Moreg.org.au) ! A very interesting piece on the meter. With as a cliff-hanger the paragraph on the spelling changes that took place around this simple instrument. Superficially reading one would conclude the pictured Wilmot is a pre 1927 Calometer. There is only one little problem, the photo clearly reads "GALOMETER", go and check (clic) for yourself. So now we are lost in Calospace. Any Morris Monster out there who is kind enough to explain?
