By Robert Vierbergen: “The smell of burning oil and rubber, vintage noise and speeding ticket worthy speeds in the city streets of Angouleme are the yearly attractions of the Circuit de Remparts in the South West of France. The revival of this nearly ancient city race started in 1978 so last year was its 30th anniversary. The vintage racing platforms were a feast. Purring chain driven Fraser Nashes; screaming Amilcars and tail biting Bugatti’s (count them!), awoke an enthusiasm among the crowds that is normally reserved for the F1. Here one can touch the cars, talk to the drivers in the paddock and enjoy the good weather. In the seven years I visited this event I never had a rainy day. Therefore it is such a pity that the great events are too often in competition. Wouldn't it be great to be able to visit both Goodwood AND the Remparts? Come on guys get your agenda's together and give us the chance to do it all!”
