Update by Leif Snellman:"Hans Etzrodt (prewar GP expert) also guesses that it is a 1904 Napier. That car was not present at the 1906 French Grand Prix. Looking at the picture it seems to me that it is a pure fantasy picture, where the artist seems to have combined three available photos. Was the postcard from 1906? If so could it have been made for and sold during the 1906 event?"
EARLIER: Erik Hardefeld sends this great postcard of Circuit de la Sarthe and ads that on the reverse in pencil is written '26 + 27 June 1906'. According to expert Leif Snellman that is the famous first Grand Prix(8w.forix.com). Now what we do not find in Leif's article is something about the here depicted 1904 Napier. See the recreated 1904 Napier (MichaelP.org).
So when was the Napier there? Can it be the case that shortly after the start of the 1904 Paris-Innsbruck the same Circuit de la Sarthe was visited? And was it a common thing in the pre GP-years to race in two directions? Leif confirmed that two way trafic for certain was certainly not done in 1906. We guess the the postcard is earlier then 1906. But did the circuit exist in 1903-4-5 ? (click photo for wider panorama)
