Bas de Voogd sends us this picture of a Fiat Topolino that his father bought new in 1938. Among other things the car was used to transport the family to their “summer cottage” (Click picture for enlargement). City people often used these old caravans as a resort for the summer The pleasure didn’t last long because World War II broke out and under the German occupation of The Netherlands it was not possible to drive a car. Many people, including Bas´ father hid their cars to prevent them from being confiscated. If you look close, it’s still possible to spot a front wheel. But before the end of the war the little Fiat was sold to a doctor who still had a license to own a car and nobody knows what has become of the car since. (text (RB) Photo courtesy Bas de Voogd)
