When visiting Ilya Sorokin's Oldtimer-Gallery in Moscow, our correspondent Ivan Barantsev noticed this gigantic tractor that took “pride of place” at the car show. It’s a Stalinets, named after Joseph Stalin, a heavy duty tractor, mostly used by the Soviet army for artillery towing. During the winter of 1941/1942 this one was crossing a frozen lake near Velikiye Luki in the Pskov region, but due to its weigh fell through the ice! It was dug up in November 2004 and a restoration was started by its owner Eugeniy Shamansky. He completed it in only five months, which we think is quite an achievement, considering the weight of the tractor is twelve tonnes!
