Update by Kit Foster: :"Fred Roe is responsible for identifying the body as d'Ieteren - the auction catalogue had not attributed the coachwork (clic for last year's condition photo by Kit ; what a carefull wash & wax plus a new set of tyres can do...!). Fred has been
accumulating automotive knowledge for every one of his 83 years,
and when he saw the car he remembered a catalog in his collection
from the New York auto show in 1927, which showed the same body
on a Minerva. ---> see Read More)
EARLIER TEXT: John Apen auction reporter of Manheimgold sended his personal favorite in the category Prewar Preserved at the recent Concours d'Elegance of Pebble Beach: a fully un-restored 1929 Cord L-29 Coupé de Ville by D'Ieteren Frères from Belgium. John Apen reports this car was acquired last year by the current owners at: "... the Bonhams Brookline Edward Jameson sale. The car did not run in 30 or so years, he carefully got it going with new plugs and other minor things. He completed the PB Tour with only having to replace the 74 year old fan belt! " The famous Belgium coachbuilder (especially with Minerva & Hispano-Suiza) founded by Joseph-Jean D'Ieteren (1805) will celebrate its second(!) centennial next year. (click for short short history at Dieteren.com). Wouldn't it be great when this untouched coachwork would return to the factory grounds just for the celebrations! There are no plans to do so, it's just a silly editor's idea. (courtesy owners James & Evelyn Fasnacht, photos John Apen; click for a down-town drive-by shot)
