WEST PIER COLLAPSED PRIOR TO RESTAURATION!

Just this morning we were informed about the partial collapse of the main building (Volkskrant.nl) of the deserted 1866 built West pier of Brighton, UK. A 40 million Euro restauration of the pier that was built for just GBP 30,000 was planned for 2003... Photos of the West Pier like it used to be(HeritageTrail.co.uk) before this weekend. Very near to the piers the motorcars participating in the yearly London to Brighton Veteran Car Run used to have their Finish. See this 2002 finish photo of the 1903 Daimler of Lord Montagu of Beaulieu. We are looking for a first hand report of somebody who has been visiting the Pier before 1940.
