Who needs a modern hardtop?

Retractable hardtops are nothing new. The concept was conceived in the US in 1922, but it took ten years before the idea materialized when in the early thirties the French designer and engineer Georges Paulin developed the ‘système éclipse’, a retractable hardtop that not only retracted into the trunk, but was also electrically operated. Peugeot adopted the system in its model range from 1934 on. It was not a huge commercial success because of their price, but they were successful in many a concours d'élégance. So, who needs a modern retractable (Peugeot.de), when you can get the perfect original? Check out this untouched, 27.000 km(!), never restored, one-owner 1937 Peugeot 402 ‘Eclipse’ at Christophe Grohe (from Friday on display at Rétrombile, Paris).
