You have already met Lizzy last Friday. This is her family standing in front of the Mt. Vernon Canyon Inn. This inn is typical of the many road house / cafe / convenience stores which were all over the United States in the Model T Ford era. As Americans hit the roads, they needed rest stops and a place for repairs. Many road houses used the name 'Last Chance' as in most parts of the west they were about a tank of gas apart. This type of business often became the local meeting place for area farmers and ranchers as well as travellers. This particular one is in Jefferson County, west of Golden Colorado, just off Interstate70, and remained in business well into the 1990s. (text and photo Hugh Nutting) (RB)
