Alfa Romeo Monza built from PreWarCar parts!

Do yo think we are a bit thin on pre-war Alfa-Romeo parts lately? This may be the reason....Chris Leigh Jones writes:
"Built over 4 years from parts collected from 14 countries but mainly sourced from New Zealand where a few specialists have a real skill set in reproducing pre-war Alfa parts. It will have a supercharged 6C 1938 2300cc Pescara engine of around 200 BHP when completed this year. Best source of parts so far outside of the above has been PreWarCar of all publications. (the parts) Cost rather more than I'd planned spending. Funny that. The last picture is a real one at Amelia Island, Florida in 2015 with my youngest son being indoctrinated in to the hobby."
Editor: no matter what some of you may think of creating a pre-war Alfa from new and old parts. Chris is open and honest about it and like Henry Ford we will take off our hat for this Alfa driver. It's a testimony of Chris' perseverance that the project is nearing completion. We're looking forward to see his first driving report.

Just noticed. The 8C engine is not in the photo of the rolling chassis, must have taken it out for the shot.

Ian - well spotted and yes its 2 cylinders short. There is an 8C engine in it in the photo (centre drive for the supercharger is the give away) but its not mine and the Pescara engine is a 6C. Expediance as 8C engines are so hard to come by and also so expensive. I thought about a Pur Sang one but really wanted a large original part so went for what I could find. Its had a major internal redesign to to take the circa 120 hp increase from standard. On the Dyno next week so fingers crossed. Gearbox is 8C dog box.

It looks great and I'm very envious, but isn't it 2 cylinders short for a Monza?

Chris, The car is a real credit to you. I would like to add that with the huge prices achieved by factory built cars folk [like Chris] who are prepared to commit to a sizeable outlay not to mention a great deal of work to produce a car themselves should be very proud of their efforts. Good for you Sir !

You have a point on the VIN plate. We researched the engine number and will stamp everything else with something appropriate but nothing that can be confused with a real AR number. The ¾ owner had better be good at grinding if they want to play the fake game. That's about the best we could think of really. TheDesignCast in NZ make pretty good replica's so we are trying to be careful here.

If you are having fun, do it. Marathon job, well done. You are not claiming its a factory car, there are a few who might try later on, but the old car world, and DVLA in UK are wiser than they were.Caveat emptor , 'Let the buyer beware' is no less important when reading the spiel that the big auction houses proclaim is gospel.
But it was ever thus. Denis Jenkinson was apt to walk down a line of cars and say " fake, fake, real, fake, real, real " I dare say this would be difficult in today's litigious world.
Fun ! Biggest word in the dictionary !

It's not Chris I worry about, but the 3rd or 4th owners, and the Auction houses inbetween, who will hype up the car to gain the most return on their dollar, until we have on display, the "Kings New Clothes".
What Vin plate will we see on the bulkhead ?
I hope that some sort of VIN Plate is attached to the chassis / body, advising people of its creation.
