Packard’s evolutionary approach to design reached new heights in 1934 with the introduction of its Eleventh Series. Retaining the formal character that had long defined the marque, Packard incorporated more flowing lines and subtle aerodynamic influences, creating a graceful bridge between traditional styling and the emerging streamlined era. Widely regarded as one of the finest pre-war Packards, the Super Eight Coupe Roadster is a particularly handsome and exceedingly rare example of this vaunted design.

The two-passenger Coupe Roadster was based on a distinctive semi-custom design supplied by LeBaron in 1931. Its most striking feature is the convertible top, which folds neatly into the body and sits flush when lowered, preserving the car’s exceptionally clean lines, while a rakish rumble seat enhances its sporting character and open-air touring versatility. The upright Packard radiator remains the visual focal point, framed by sweeping front fenders and beautifully proportioned bodywork. Partially covered fenders further hint at the streamlined styling that would soon become dominant.

Beneath the long hood is Packard’s smooth-running 384.8-cubic-inch straight-eight engine, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The chassis benefits from Packard’s advanced engineering, including adjustable Ride Control suspension and Bijur automatic lubrication, making this imposing automobile remarkably refined and usable for its era.

This example was comprehensively restored prior to earning an Antique Automobile Club of America National Senior First Prize Award in 1979. Since the consignor acquired it in 2011, the car has received continued sympathetic care, including refreshed chrome wire wheels, interior upholstery, and a new convertible top. It is finished in an especially attractive tan-and-brown color combination and a matching tan top. Factory equipment includes an uncommon dash-integrated radio, dual horn trumpets, dual side-mounted spare wheels with covers and mirrors, and a luggage rack.
