This Ford Model A Speedster is a period-correct racing speedster built on a 1930 Ford Model A. Back in the day, Model A sedans in the USA and Denmark were often converted into light, affordable racing cars, and this car follows exactly that tradition. Its builder hand-crafted the body himself over some 2,000 hours, on a fully restored chassis. The project was carried out in consultation with the German TÜV and was featured at length in Motor Klassik 6/2009.
The 3,285 cc four-cylinder engine has been completely rebuilt. It features a period twin-carburettor setup, a tubular exhaust manifold, a crankshaft with custom-made bronze bearings and a stainless steel exhaust system. The differential has a new crown wheel and pinion with a taller final drive ratio, and the brake drums are cast iron. Inside, there are cognac leather seats, an aluminium dashboard with a hammered finish, a cast aluminium floor and a folding steering wheel. Brooklands-style wind deflectors and side-mounted canisters for fuel, oil and water complete the picture.
A valuation by Dipl.-Ing. H. Schuran (2011) rates the overall condition at grade 1.5. The valuation is included.
A one-off with plenty of character, ideal for road trips, classic rallies and club events.
