George Geeson is just 99 years young, first drove a Model T Ford at the age of 15 and still maintains his driving licence and makes local trips in his modern car. George is believed to be Britain’s oldest driver. In conversation with VCC Vice President Stewart Skilbeck recently George, who served his time as a motor engineer and later ran a successful garage on the Great North Road near Grantham, indicated that nothing would please him more than to see a Model T Ford again and perhaps have a ride in one. With the help of VCC Past President John Longden, owner of a 1915 Ford Model T, George Geeson’s wishes were fulfilled. The Longden Model T Ford arrived at South Witham Primary School, opposite George’s home in South Lincolnshire, and George was able to explain all the intricate workings of a Model T Ford to the school children who were brought out in classes to witness the occasion. George recounted how little traffic there was in those days and how rough the roads were and his mechanical knowledge of the Model T Ford could not be faulted by car owner John Longden. Glorious sunshine enabled veteran motorist George to take a spin around the local lanes in the car and, in best Laurel and Hardy style, had to retrieve his wayward trilby when top speed was achieved!
