A 1924 Crossley rescued from a life as a tow truck

Frazer Sloan sent in a wonderful story about a 1924 Crossley 19.6 (registration ND-7115) his father rescued from a life as a tow truck in 1962. He restored it and campaigned it in numerous VSCC events in the 1960s including the famous VSCC Welsh trial in 1964. Footage of David Roscoe's video collection about the Welsh trail can be seen here. If you have not seen it before, the video is definitely worth watching.

Frazer told us “the Crossley in the photographs is the sister car to an old Trumpeteering friend in North Wales who owns ND-7114. A two-seater bodied 19.6 registered on the same day.

The 1924 Crossley was bought back, by the man whom my father bought it from in the 1960s, sometime in the 1980s, after a lot of further work being carried out on it by Crossley enthusiasts. Following sadly his death earlier this year, the family has been very kind to allow me to buy it back again. I am in the process of trying to get it running. The last time it ran was 1990 for the last owner's son's wedding day. Apart from a dented front wing and a broken rear wing bracket (workman have stood on them) and a now un-seized engine and cone clutch, the car would appear to be in good order despite its 28-year slumber. I'm looking forward to a target of the VSCC Winter Driving tests at Bicester Heritage and to be able to use it once more in VSCC events.”
