A 60 mph three room appartment

Reacting to yesterday's motor home feature Tom Laferriere react with his very recent offering of a 1929 Studebaker, straight eight President engined House Car. Looks can deceive, the vehicle is 100 percent restored while retaining the fabulous looks. So don't say our american friends only like shine. From the outside it's only the tires and wheels and the added safety glass that tell you the underlying - massive- work which has been done.

This vehicle is custom built in California. “Dulce Domun, San Marino” is painted on the body above a brass plate stating: “Designed & Built by: Advanced Auto Body Works Los Angeles”. And they did well. The bus was converted in a sumptuous three room appartment! With running water, bathroom facilities, bedding for six and more. No, no recent or modern additions, all original fittings. If you have the time, be sure to take the 26 minute tour in and around the holiday house which culminates in a plus 60MPH highway cruising run!

They did not mention the brakes. That heavy vehicle going 65mph brings up concerns about that subject.
I am very impressed by the condition and the beauty. The bay windows on the rear are particularly nice.

Re: 1920s car with Westinghouse Air Shocks

These are covered in early Dykes Automobile Encyclopedia. Quote: "It consists of an air chamber made of two sections, one of which telescopes inside the other. The outer section is attached to a bracket on the frame of the car. The inner section is attached to the end of the spring. The chamber is partly filled with oil through a filling hole. The filling plug has an ordinary Schraeder valve through which the chamber may be charged with air at any desired pressure. The oil in the chamber seals the packings of the telescoping joint and prevents air from leaking out." There was also a one-way valve in the flat top piston which returned oil to the upper chamber. The effectiveness of these would have been minimised by attachment to the front end of the springs rather than the axle itself.

What are the cylindrical items with nickel or chrome dome tops near the headlight? A superb vehicle, surprised it survived.
